Position Overview:

Responsible to coordinate and organize recreational programs for Independent Living residents. Support volunteers, assist in program planning, lead activities, conduct fitness programs, assist other department staff and ensure accurate daily charting of activities for state compliance.

  • Conduct activities and maintain the highest quality of programs in the Independent Living area to meet the needs of the resident population.
  • Create, distribute and implement a weekly Independent Living newsletter and activity calendar.
  • Create, distribute and implement the monthly Independent Living activity calendar.
  • Responsible for planning, promoting and implementing off campus excursions for Independent Living residents.
  • Organize, order and distribute tickets to various off site concerts, plays, operas, etc.
  • Work with outside entertainers as to organize on-campus concerts, talks and other activities.
  • Work with internal departments (dining, facilities, resident services, etc) to coordinate meeting setups, room reservations and food/beverage setups.
  • Coordinate community-wide special events, outdoor recreational events, special functions and all other areas as requested by Director.
  • Create and coordinate programs with the outside community including schools, youth groups and other organizations and individuals.
  • Coordinate and lead variety of classes: activities, fitness, and wellness for Independent Living residents
  • Comply with all safety standards.
  • Responsible for proper care and use of supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain documentation for all recreation activities in Independent Living.
  • Attend professional conferences, meetings and workshops in the recreation/health field.
  • Remain current with all new laws and state regulation changes.
  • Maintain the highest quality of programs keeping in step with resident’s needs.
  • Be available to residents when they need assistance with wellness activities.
  • Implement additional recreational programs as needed.
  • Coordinate the resolution of all resident concerns, in a timely manner, with direction of supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge: Must have two years’ experience in a social wellness or recreation program within the past five years, one year of which was in an activity program for older adults. Must be familiar with state regulations in regard to activities requirements. First Aid and CPR certified desired. Must be able to use a variety of computer/software programs.
  • Independent Judgment: Work requires decision-making involving the analysis of the facts of a situation and the determination of what actions should be taken within the limits of standard procedures. Must also be able to work independently toward goals. *
  • Relations with Others: Job role requires substantive interaction with residents, staff and community members. Occasional interaction with resident family members. Requires a high level of tact, persuasion and judgment.
  • Moderate to heavy physical conditions. Involves walking, bending, stooping, twisting, reaching, and handling of equipment and supplies. Involves pushing and pulling of residents in wheelchairs over 50 lbs.

Required Experience:

Work Experience: Two years experience in a recreational or wellness program.
Experience working with older adults required.
Experience teaching fitness classes.

  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Recreation or Hospitality Management or equivalent.
  • License / Certification: Certification as a Fitness Instructor or Personal Trainer is a plus.

• Must have at least 3 years of cooking experience, including at least 1 year as Sous Chef.
• Must have experience in a high production kitchen with quality standards in preparation, presentation, and execution
• Must be able to initiate and monitor strict health care diet requirements, county and federal regulations as well as best practices for food safety.
• Must have ability to create detailed menus with accurate descriptions.
• Must understand roasting, sautéing, and braising, and other cooking techniques.
